The North is our place of momentary completion, where we rest to assimilate our newly gained perspectives from our hard fought struggles.  It is represented by the mountain and the element of air.  It provides the grounding and structure to integrate our changes and make them visible.  In the North, you approach the point of ending and new beginnings.  You must take the lessons of your childhood tempered by what you have learned in the darkness of the cave and the depth of the waters and to ascend to the top of the mountain to reflect and shine.  On your ascent, you may crash, backslide or feel that the path is blocked.  You may experience a delay or a need to backtrack; yet, you must continue without knowing the final destination. There is a need for faith.  There is a reason the mountain is found in many teachings of struggle and challenge and redemption. Faith is the courage to act from your heart, to follow your innermost being, to trust your innermost voice that whispers to you why you are here. Many of us may be uncomfortable with the feelings of success or accomplishment and want to turn away from any attention.  It is most important to feel this sense of accomplishment within yourself, regardless of the attention you may or may no receive from the world.

SELF QUESTIONS on the north

  • What do you consider your greatest success?

  • Are you comfortable with the feeling of accomplishment?

  • Is there anyone who you think would be uncomfortable with your success?

  • What were your childhood messages and role models regarding the concept of success?

  • Are you comfortable with leadership and the responsibilities of power?

  • Are there people, places or things that you feel block you ability to be truly successful?

  • In what ways do you allow yourself or others to undermine your accomplishments?

 The FOUR PRACTICES

Your Words

TIME: At least 45 minute to sit and absorb the process.

 MATERIALS: Journal or book

Imagine yourself at the pinnacle of your success.  Note your feelings, your fears.  Do the opinions of other matter here?  Whose acceptance do you most value?  Is there another person, place or thing that you imagine blocking your ability to take your learning and your new way of being into the world?  What do you need to do to make the world a safe a welcoming place for your contribution?  What armor do you need to allow your freedom of movement and protection from unwanted negativity?

Your Movement

TIME : 30 minutes or more

MATERIALS: space

EXERCISE 1:

Keeping the wisdom of your own safety, encourage yourself to go a bit further than you have ever gone before now.  Take a longer walk: swim a farther distance: go to the top of a tall mountain or building or tree : climb to the top of a Jungle Gym.  See how it feels to be above and looking down. Stay as long as you are comfortable.  Note your feel

Exercise 2 : The Yoga Mudra.

The Yoga Mudra is the symbol of true yoga . It is about surrender and letting your mind be guided by your heart, the seat of the soul.

You begin on your hands and knees with your toes together.

Open your knees shoulder width or the width of your mat.

Bring your head the forward to the mat and interlace fingers behind the back with palms facing the back and then stretching with your arms behind you.

Connect the forehead from your hairline to your mat then with stretched arms, lifting your hips and flowing from the front of head to the crown of you head and then back.

As you repeat massaging the crown of the head, be mindful of keeping the pressure comfortable not straining. Lift from your hips.  Breathe in as you roll to the crown and breathe out as you draw the sitz bones to the heels with the arms stretching up to open the heart.

Make sure you draw your breath into your core around the navel and the lower back. Exhale and drop to your heels.

Exercise 3: Give yourself a 5-10 minute chair massage.  Start at the top of your head  rubbing in gentle circles with both hands, moving down to your neck, shoulders, down your arms and out each fingertip.  Massage you chest, down you stomach hips legs, don through your knees out your feet. Feel the differences in the overall sense of energy throughout your body.

Your Art

Time: All of the time you need    Materials : Your Home

EXERCISE1: Sacred Space

Make your home a sacred space, an altar to honor the path you have traveled, your present life, the challenges you’ve overcome and your highest aspirations. Include things that are meaningful for you at this time:  Special rocks, shells, crystals, images, scents, candles, whatever brings the sacred into your space. As your continue the refinement of your home, you want to make sure that you have objects and images of goals achieved and dreams to be manifested.

Exercise 2: The Magic Wand

Time : 30 minutes

Materials: a dowel , stick or branch from the garden; found objects, stones, ad seeds, leaves, etc., acrylic paint, sparkling pipe cleaners, glitter, ribbons, objects for the top, glue gun, beads and baubles, bells  ( All of these items can be collected from dollar store, Hobby stores, Christmas closeouts, or garage sale.  You might store them in plastic containers or baskets on shelves or in a closet. There are also scrap booking carts available with pockets and places for all sorts of stuff. It is easy to collect these things and important to have variety of color and texture, but don't let your space become overrun with clutter.  You will always need clear space to create.

Directions:

  • If desired, paint the dowel of branch and let it dry.  You may choose metallic colors or dip the dowels in glitter while the paint is wet. You may also choose a natural tree branch, sanded or unsanded.

  • Attach a Crowning Object of you choice using wire, tape, glue or other a fixative.

  • Twist the wire stars, ribbons or other decorations around the wand adding a drop of wire every few inches . Remember spirals honor change and transformation.

Across many cultures, achieving success may be recognized by the presentation of a totem of success.  It may be a badge or button , a crown or scepter, a trophy or a plaque .   What I like about this exercise is the idea that it confers a level of accomplishment in being able to make and hold the wand and an opportunity for sharing its magic.   You deserve the best for all you have learned in life.

Your Silence

TIME : 30 minutes or more

MATERIALS: A quiet space

EXERCISE 1: Sit quietly in nature beneath a tree, in a meadow, on a mountain or rock connected to all that is, knowing, grounding and sensing your connection and oneness.  Experience at-one-ment.  No matter how high you go or how low you sink; you are always a part of all there is.

Exercise 2 : RUNNING YOUR ENERGY FOR BALANCE, CLARITY, AND HEALING

  • Sit in a chair with your feet flat on the floor, preferably without any shoes. Allow your palms to rest comfortably face up on your thighs.

  •   Imagine a grounding cord dropping down from the base of your spine, at least as wide as your hips.  This grounding cord can be made of any material you like just make sure the energy is clear and transparent.

  • Visualize roots dropping down from the soles of your feet connecting you to the earth.  Gently allow the earth's energy in a healing green color to come up through the soles of your feet, through your legs, thighs to the base of your spine where the energy runs back down to the earth.

  • Imagine a bright golden sun atop of your head.  make it your own unique color of gold.  A color that feels good to your body, mind and spirit. Without leaving your grounded body bring back all of your energy to yourself , neutral and in present time. If you have left energy at work, or school, the bank or grocery store, with a loved one or not- s-o loved one, call it all back to you now, in clear present time form and allow the energy to fill the sun above your head.  As much as you care about others, your energy is a unique blueprint for your soul and only you can use its strength and power.

  • When the sun is full and clear and golden, gently allow this energy to come in through your crown, moving slowly down the back of your head and neck, all the way down your spine filling every cell of your body with golden present time energy.

  • When it reaches the base of your spine allow to mix with the grounded earth energy and begin to allow bring this golden- green, earth solar combination to come up through your body.

  • Most people prefer about 10% earth to 90% solar combination, but if you are feeling the need for more grounding, please adjust it to best serve your body.  Allow this combination to move up the front of your body filling your pelvic floor, your abdominal core, your solar plexus, heart and lugs, moving down your shoulders and arms, out our fingertips, then gently up through your throat, your face and ears, your forehead, and shower out through the top of your head filling the space 18 inches around you.  Sit in this position for at least 10 minutes.  Try and work up to 30 minutes 1-2 times a day.
